Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player.
